I do prescribe controlled substances, however tend to be cautious and like to make sure that I have all the details of the underlying diagnoses that would warrant use. I have a strong background in addiction, so I will by law require urine drug screen, at random intervals, particularly with adults to verify medication use and prevent diversion. I can’t not prescribe controlled substance by law, if I were to find alternative illicit substance in your urine drug screen. This is law that I must abide by through the FDA.
We will first figure out of root cause looking first at genetic predisposition, then spend approximately 1 hour doing a psychiatric evaluation. I will provide you with a variety of holistic options, including medications, therapy, or natural supplements. I take a lot of pride in properly, throughly explaining each mental health condition. I will also determine if there is any medical etiology that is causing or mimicking mental health symptoms.
You would have separate appointments for protection of privacy. Parents can attend the child's appointment if they are under 18 years of age, based on HIPPA guidelines. A child can not attend a parent's evaluation and follow ups so that patient's confidentiality and transparency are honored.
